Wes Onland, MD PhD, is working as medical staff member at the department of Neonatology in the Emma Children’s Hospital Amsterdam UMC in Amsterdam since 2011. He published over 100 peer-reviewed studies in international journals, and has been or currently is co-promotor in more than ten PhD-trajectories. He is the co-founder and chair of the foundation Neonatology Network Netherlands (N3) since 2018, the national organisation initiating, facilitating and organizing neonatal research, benchmarking and guideline developments (www.neonatologynetwork.eu). All nine neonatal intensive care units in the Netherlands participate actively in this foundation among in close collaboration with Care4Neo, the Dutch patient federation. The foundation has received grants with a total amount of over 5.5 million euro since 2018, and has performed and published these trials in high impact journals, and currently is conducting several high impact multicentre trials.
He published several neonatal Cochrane reviews and multiple other reviews in peer reviewed journals. He teaches evidence based medicine to medical students (‘Epicurus academische vorming’) during the first three years of their bachelor, and supervised over 50 students writing their bachelor thesis in order to receive their bachelor degree.
