Bernhard Schwaberger MD, PhD is a neonatologist and researcher affiliated with the Medical University of Graz, Austria. He serves as the lead senior consultant of the neonatal intensive care unit and as deputy director of the Division of Neonatology within the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine.
His research interests encompass a wide range of topics, including neonatal resuscitation, near-infrared spectroscopy, neonatal transition, cord clamping strategies, cerebral blood volume, vascular access in newborns, lung ultrasonography (point-of-care ultrasonography), (non-) invasive neonatal ventilation, and congenital diaphragmatic hernia. He has authored approximately 100 scientific articles in these fields.
Bernhard is actively involved in the European Society for Pediatric Research (ESPR), serving as a section council member of the “Circulation, Oxygen Transport and Hematology” section, a founding member of the special interest group (SIG) on “Neonatal and Pediatric Vascular Access,” and an ordinary member of the SIGs on “Near-Infrared Spectroscopy” and “Neonatal Resuscitation.” He is also a member of the Neonatal European Vascular Access Team (NEVAT) and serves on the board of the Perinatal Society of Styria.
He played a key role in the COSGOD study, is a collaborator in the iCOMP consortium, and serves as the local principal investigator for the PinC trial.
