Gusztav Belteki MD, PhD, FRCPCH is a consultant neonatologist in Cambridge, UK. He completed his medical and core paediatric training in Budapest, Hungary, followed by research fellowships in Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, Canada and Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Cambridge, UK, leading to his PhD in molecular biology and stem cell research. Subsequently, he completed his neonatal fellowship in Cambridge and has been a consultant there since 2010.
Gusztav has been interested in neonatal ventilation since 2015. His main research interest is using artificial intelligence to recognise patient-ventilator interactions and to automate mechanical ventilation. He acquired computer programming skills and learned the mathematical and computational basis of machine learning and deep learning. In Cambridge and via collaborations, he has collected ventilator data from thousands of infants receiving respiratory support and has developed computational methods to process and interpret them. He has been the organizer and course director of the yearly Cambridge Neonatal Ventilation Course for ten years. He has been a scientific advisor to the ventilator companies Dräger and Zoli Medical.
